Liberal Government’s Carbon Tax Plan Will Increase the Cost of Living in the North
Friday, July 22, 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fort McMurray, Alberta — David Yurdiga, Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray – Cold Lake and the Official Opposition Critic for Northern Affairs, today expressed his disappointment with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s refusal to rule out forcing a carbon tax on the provinces and territories. He made the following statement:
“The Prime Minister has shown a total disregard for the territories with his recent comments. A carbon tax will cripple industry and drastically drive up the cost of living for Northerners.
“A carbon tax is a tax on everything, and Northerners can’t afford it. Increasing the cost of food, essential goods and electricity will make life more difficult for families. The Liberal government either doesn’t know or doesn’t care that diesel is not a luxury in the North, it is a necessity.
“A carbon tax is a tax on the northern living, designed to help fund Prime Minister Trudeau`s reckless spending agenda.”
“Whether it’s raising taxes, cutting territorial transfer payments or implementing a carbon tax, this Liberal government has shown that it is intent on destroying jobs and raising taxes for Northerners.
