Today we celebrate Canada’s rich cultural diversity. National Aboriginal day is first and foremost about the diversity and achievements of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada. The First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people are central to the Canadian national identity.
I have the distinct pleasure to serve both as your Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray – Cold Lake, and also as the official opposition critic for northern affairs. I have been fortunate as a Member of Parliament, to have spoken to many aboriginal peoples in their many communities. I have had the privilege to learn more about the rich and cultures of Canada’s First Nations peoples, and their proud achievements.
